When the narrator show the boys selling strawberries as well as polishing shoes he asked them about, then they replied they did many such odd jobs which also included selling newspapers, working as a guide. They also hoped that they would get some work and earn something.

When narrator asked the boys about what they did with the money they earn, Nicola becomes uncomfortable and felt uneasiness answering this. This change in color refer to the embarrassment they felt.

Answer :

When the narrator asked the boys about their plans, Nicola didn't expect such question and felt uneasy answering it. He replied saying that they had some plans trying to keep their family matter private.

Answer :

This line tells that both nicola and jacoppo were mature irrespective of their ages. They were of 13 and 12 but behave like a responsive person although they were shabby clothes and were very young but they were gentle and mature enough to fight the hurdles of life.

Answer :

Luigi, the driver didn't approve of the narrator buying fruit from the two boys because the boys were untidy and poorly dressed and had a shobby appearance.

The narrator and his companion were impressed by the two boys because of their willingness to work.

7. Why were the author surprised to see nicola and jacopo working as shoeshine boys ?

Answer :

The author meet nicola jacopo before and known them as a strawberry or fruit seller. But the next day when he saw the boys polishing shoes he was surprised and astonishing thinking how are they doing multiple jobs.

Answer :

Whenever the author wanted a pack of cigarettes, or seats for the opera or the name of good resturant, Nicola and jacopo were always there to satisfy their needs.

Answer :

The boys were waiting for the last bus frim Padua so that they could sell all their newspaper. So the boys were waiting at the deserted square. They show the willingness to work and characters like committed to job, hard working.

10. The narrator asks the boys , “must you work so hard? You both look rather tired” the boys reply, “We are not complaining, sir” what do we learn about these boys from their reply ?

Answer :

The boys worked really hard and never complained about their job we learn about dedication towards work. Sense of responsibility. They also never considered any work small or big.

11. When the narrator asks the boys about their plans they are evasive. Why don’t they disclose their problems ?

Answer :

The two boys were cautious of their self esteem and didn’t want their family matter to be spreaded. They didn’t want their privacy to be included. They wanted to earn by working not through any ones sympathy.

12. Appearances are deceptive. Discuss with reference to the two boys.

Answer :

Appearance do not decide a person’s character . the two boys Niccola and Jacopo irrespective of their age , were mature enough and had enough to fight the hurdle of life. They were untidy and poorly dressed but gentle they were young but mature their work defines their work not appearance.

13. Do you think boys looked after Lucia willingly? Give reason for your answer ?

Answer :

Yes, Lucia was their sister and they absolutely looked after her willingly. They were sensitive to their sister. It is not that anyone was forcing them, it was their own choice.

14.How does the story "Two Gentlemen of Verona" promise hope for society ?

Answer :

If we take a glance of our society, we shall find the people working only for their own interest . nobody cares about others but for their own selfish nature. This tendency of people will kill themselves but here the two boys work so hard and are serious about it. Which is only for their sisters recovery. They work so hard to earn for their sister. They are an example for society. They are an incarnation of love , humanity and virtues.

15. Tough days do not last but tough people do. Explain with reference to the chapter ?

Answer :

Nicola and Jacopo had lost everything in the war. They lost their father and sister’s disease odd upon to their problems. But they didn’t give up. They fought against the hurdle of life. They worked hard and did many odd jobs. They tried to earn money through any means. They are able to pay the hospital fees also. These boys fought bravely. They didn’t lose hope, soon their tough days will be gone but they will remain as they are.
